Acclimation

Also called: drip acclimation

Acclimation is gradually adjusting new livestock to your tank's temperature and salinity before releasing it — slowly, since sudden change is a major cause of stress and loss.

Float the bag to match temperature, then add tank water gradually; inverts are especially sensitive and want a slow drip acclimation over an hour or more. Corals are acclimated to your lighting separately, over weeks.
