Soft corals are corals without a hard stony skeleton — zoanthids, mushrooms, leathers, GSP, xenia — and the forgiving, low-demand corals most keepers start with.
They tolerate modest light and flow and don't draw down calcium or alkalinity, so they thrive without dosing. The main thing to manage is spread — several softies are weedy and will overrun the rock if not contained.
