Captive-bred

Also called: tank-bred · aquacultured

Captive-bred (or aquacultured) livestock is raised in captivity rather than collected from the wild — usually hardier, better adapted to tank life, and with no impact on wild reefs.

Captive-bred clownfish, for example, eat prepared foods readily and ship better than wild fish. Choosing captive-bred fish, corals and inverts where you can is the more sustainable and often more successful choice.
