It's peaceful, nano-friendly and endlessly charming — with two honest caveats: it has a tiny mouth (so it needs small, frequent food), and it may nip the polyps of the SPS/Acropora it lives in.

Common myths, kindly corrected — no shame for having believed them.
- “Clown gobies are fully reef-safe.” Almost — they can nip the polyps of the SPS/Acropora they perch in. It's usually cosmetic, but worth knowing if you keep prized SPS.
- “Keep a group.” Only in a larger tank — in a nano they fight with their own kind. Single or a pair for small setups.
Before you buy
- Give it branching coral or rockwork to perch in.
- Have small meaty foods (ideally live to start); it has a tiny mouth and can be shy at first.
- Keep tankmates peaceful — it can't compete with pushy fish.
- SPS keeper? Accept the small polyp-nipping risk.
Quarantine and get help if…

- Never house it with aggressive or fast fish that outcompete it for food.

- Never add it to an uncycled tank.
