Powerhead

Also called: wavemaker · flow pump

A powerhead is a submersible pump that creates water flow inside the display — keeping detritus in suspension, feeding corals and gas-exchanging the surface.

Corals need flow matched to their type: gentle for softies and LPS, strong and turbulent for SPS. Aim powerheads to bounce off the glass for random flow rather than blasting one spot, and screen the intake around wandering anemones.
