Phosphate is a nutrient from food and waste that feeds algae when high but is needed in small amounts by corals — the reef target is low-but-not-zero, roughly 0.03–0.10 ppm.
Like nitrate, phosphate is about balance, not elimination. Zero phosphate is a warning sign, not a trophy — it usually means corals are starving and dinos are about to bloom.
