FOWLR (Fish-Only-With-Live-Rock) is a marine tank kept with fish and live rock but no corals — the simplest, most forgiving way into saltwater.
Without corals to satisfy, a FOWLR tank needs no special lighting and tolerates a wider parameter range, so it's a gentle starting point. Many keepers run FOWLR first and convert to a full reef once the routine is second nature.
