The cleanup crew (CUC) is the team of snails, hermit crabs and other inverts that graze algae, turn the sand and scavenge leftover food — the reef's janitorial staff.
Right-size it to the tank: overstocking a crew just starves it, so start small and add as needed. A cleanup crew supplements good husbandry — it can't out-eat an underlying nutrient problem.
